Roxie’s Spring Blog…Thanks to a Little Help From A Friend

A Great Adventure for Kids and Adults:  Search For—and Decorate--Fairy Houses!

(Note from Roxie:  When I promised you a Roxie blog, little did I realize what BIG obstacles I’d have—for example, no matter how hard I jumped up and down on the computer keyboard, I really couldn’t make the keys work.  I needed help—and so I asked my author friend, Jackie Kelly to “lend a hand”.  Even though fairies are not allowed to be seen by humans, nobody said I wasn’t allowed to whisper in Jackie’s ear!  (How do you think I got my story written to begin with?) So, I made a deal: I’ll whisper, she’ll type.  So far so good!)

We fairies are a little sneaky.  Although sometimes we hide our houses almost in plain sight, we always try to blend in with nature!  Still, if you know what to look for, you and your children can find your very own fairy house!  (And maybe even add a few “magical” touches of your own to attract even more fairies to your neighborhood!)

When looking for fairies, look high—and low!  Fairies LOVE to make their home in hollowed out trees. High flyers prefer a room at the top.  But some fairies prefer little nooks and crannies close to the ground.  So, take your young fairy lovers for a walk, enjoy the spring sunshine, and keep an eye out for fairy houses!

Also keep a close lookout for natural decorations you can add to a fairy home.

I found this  lovely bark (perfect for making a fairy roof), acorn caps to use as nectar cups,  moss, a yellow dandelion to use as a stool and a pine cone that I’ll find a place for eventually.  I also kept an eye out for lovely stones, toadstools—anything that is the right scale for a little nature-loving person like me.

Below, you can see how I took a VERY old piece of firewood and turned it into a lovely two-story home that still blends in with its natural surroundings.
